Ride Through History on Nunley's Carousel
Originally installed in 1912 on the Brooklyn waterfront in Canarsie’s Golden City Park, the carousel—affectionately known as “Murphy’s”—delighted visitors for 26 years. In 1950, it found a new home in Baldwin, NY, where it reopened as Nunley’s Carousel and became a cherished part of childhood memories for three generations.
After Nunley’s Amusement Park closed in 1995, Nassau County purchased the historic ride to preserve its legacy. In 2009, this rare treasure—one of only three surviving carousels crafted by the famed Stein & Goldstein—was carefully restored and relocated to Museum Row in Garden City.
Today, the Long Island Children's Museum proudly operates Nunley’s Carousel in partnership with Nassau County, keeping the magic alive for new generations of riders.
Location
The carousel is located on Museum Row between LICM and the Nassau County Firefighters Museum, accessible from the East Parking Lot. The carousel is enclosed by glass and heated during cold weather, allowing the carousel to operate year-round.
