Your generous support allows LICM to bring interactive educational programs and cultural experiences to children and families in a safe and nurturing environment, and to reach out into the community to provide programs for children and families from low income areas as well as those with disabilities.

Why we need your support

LICM relies on corporations, foundations and individual contributions for a nearly half of our budget - usually about 45% ($1.7 million).  COVID-19 and the required closure of LICM has created significant financial challenges for the Museum.  Due to loss in earned revenue from ticket sales while the museum is closed, the goal is to increase contributed revenue from all sources.

We invite everyone in our community to support the Museum at any level that is comfortable, and in any way that works for you.

Cupcakes & Cocktails

In the spirit of the Children’s Museum, LICM’s only annual fundraiser – for grownups – is unlike traditional fundraising events featuring a continuous cocktail party, engaging activities, entertainment and fun.  Proceeds allow LICM to enhance its museum-based educational programs and cultural experiences and extend its community outreach programs across Long Island.

Stay tuned for the date to be announced for Cupcakes & Cocktails 2020!

Additional information on LICM’s Financial Picture

  • LICM is a 501C3 non-profit organization.
  • We get 55% of  our income from earned revenue - admission fees, memberships, and field trips and other sources; and 45% from donations - grants, sponsorships, events, and individual donors.
  • While we are closed, our earned revenue (55% of total budget) moves to $0, putting a tremendous financial challenge on our not-for-profit organization.
  • Our annual fundraiser, Cupcakes & Cocktails, usually held in June had to be postponed to the fall.  This event usually raises $750,000.  Without that support this June, we are facing increased financial hurdles.
  • LICM has continued to employ our full-time staff members working on virtual content development and re-opening plans, plus long-term projects including exhibit development, Museum accreditation and training modules.
  • We are rigorously pursuing and applying for all available COVID-19 impact funds including the Payroll Protection Program (PPP) and Economic Injury Disaster Loan (EIDL) through the SBA.  We have received both, however at lower levels than needed.
  • While we have tremendous support and leadership from our board and community leaders, it requires more than them.
  • We are not a County-run facility.  While we are housed on County land, we have to raise and earn all the Museum’s operating costs independently.
  • As a private 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, we are grateful for the monetary gifts, services and talents of our benefactors.

All donations are tax deductible as allowed by law.   EIN 11-3035221.
