Working alongside Museum educators, the Green Teen volunteers gain hands-on experience creating and leading learning experiences for children and families. Along the way, they build confidence, communication skills, teamwork, and a deeper understanding of what it means to serve their community.

Green Teens are active participants in their learning experience. Through training, collaboration, and hands-on service, teens have opportunities to:
- Build leadership skills by taking responsibility for programs and activities
- Strengthen communication by working with children, families, educators, and fellow teens
- Develop teamwork by collaborating to plan and deliver engaging experiences
- Explore STEM through real-world topics including science, nature, sustainability, and conservation
- Give back by creating meaningful experiences for children in their community
- Gain experience that can help prepare them for future academic, career, and volunteer opportunities
From Learners to Leaders
Green Teens work closely with LICM educators and STEM staff to turn ideas into experiences that inspire younger learners.
Teens receive guidance and training, then put their skills into action by helping develop and facilitate hands-on activities. They learn how to communicate complex ideas in engaging ways, work with different age groups, adapt to new situations, and create positive experiences for Museum visitors.
Through this process, teens aren’t simply assisting with programs—they’re learning to lead them.
Making an Impact Through STEM
One of the ways Green Teens contribute to the Museum community is through STEM Explorers, LICM’s interactive STEM programming for children and families.
Working with LICM’s STEM Initiatives Program Director, Green Teens help develop and lead hands-on activities that encourage young visitors to explore topics such as alternative energy, water, habitats, conservation, and more.
Teens also participate in LICM’s annual STEM Weekend, working alongside scientists, educators, and community partners to bring STEM learning to life for Museum visitors.
Their impact reaches beyond the teens themselves—Green Teens help inspire the next generation of curious thinkers and problem-solvers.

Green Teens become part of a community of high school students who share a commitment to learning, service, and making a difference.
Whether they’re working with a Museum educator, collaborating with fellow teens, or engaging with a young visitor, Green Teens develop skills and experiences that extend far beyond their time at LICM.
