In honor of National Children’s Grief Awareness Month, we will be hosting a Day of Healing through Play.
Learn about the tradition of Dia de los Muertos and create your own crafts to celebrate our ancestors, life and family!
- Memory Jar: Decorate a memory jar to take home to capture the memories of our ancestors and loved ones who no longer with us and special memories with friends, family and pets.
- Calavera Face Painting (Maquillaje de Catrina y Catrin): Have your face painted as a happy skeleton to celebrate our ancestors and loved ones!
- Add to LICM’s Ofrenda, or alter meant to celebrate life, remember loved ones and connect with family history.
- Papel Picado Banner: Create a papel picado square to add to the banners decorating the LICM ofrenda. Papel picado is a way to remember that life is fragile and beautiful.
- Paper Marigolds (Cempasúchil): These bright and beautiful flowers are used to decorate an ofrenda, making it a welcoming space to honor those who are gone. Create a paper marigold to add to the LICM ofrenda.
Bereavement and grief resources will be available throughout the event.
This is in concert with the ACM/NY Life Foundation Initiative – Healing through Play.
