Long Island Children’s Museum supporters returned to the Museum for an exciting in-person gathering after 2020’s virtual event. The 2021 fundraiser took place on September 23, and was a much needed celebration of community after the challenges of COVID.
The annual event honored Jon Ledecky, Co-Owner of the NY Islanders with the Community Leadership Award. His passion for people, community, and his connection with his friends from elementary school that have lasted a lifetime was inspirational for everyone to see.
The continuous cocktail party featured cupcakes and cocktails (of course), along with food stations, as well as plenty of experiential activities. Guests made jewelry, decorated drink tumblers, and tried their hand at painting and could jump on the “Slip and Slide Sock Skating” rink on the second floor as they square off against members of the Long Island Warriors team. The silent auction gave guests the opportunity to bid on popular experiences including shopping sprees, staycation sites and sporting events, including NY Islanders packages.
Performance highlights included a jazz combo with alumni from the Juilliard School, and a thrilling performance by Uniondale High School Show Choir singing “This is Us.” The performance was the perfect introduction to Great Friend to Kids Award recipient show choir director Lynnette Carr-Hicks.
The event raised more than $760,000 to support Museum programs, exhibits and outreach initiatives. The evening was Co-Chaired by Scott Rechler (President & CEO, RXR Realty), Glenn Tyranski, (Managing Director/Affiliate, FTI Consulting), and Richard Ferrucci II (Alliant Insurance).
