A unique program that brings STEM education to students and their teachers in the Westbury School District.
The Westbury STEM Partnership is a school-museum teaching model which expands the District’s science, engineering, technology and math program beyond the confines of the classroom and utilizes the Museum as a resource to students, teachers and families. Through the program, LICM becomes an extension of the classroom. By enhancing classroom learning, students gain a deeper understanding of the curriculum. The program serves every first, second and third grade student, as well as all special education students in grades K-12, in the Westbury district.
Inspiring Students: An Educator's Viewpoint
The Westbury STEM Partnership introduces the concept of inquiry-based learning – where students develop critical thinking and analytical skills. Strategies employed in the program provide students with sustained and repeated access to interactive, creative learning experiences while helping educators meet state-mandated learning standards. Students and teachers are engaged in LICM’s learning environment for multiple-visit programs that are unique and designed to enable discovery, ignite curiosity and celebrate success.
