February is From the Heart month!
We'll examine the heart from all angles this month … from the customs surrounding St. Valentine’s Day, to the creative passion that fuels innovation and discovery to scientific explorations of this vital human organ.
March is Circus month!
You
can join the circus and you don’t even have to leave home.
In the lobby there will be a “three-ring” atmosphere
created by our wonderful exhibits team. Visitors can discover their
circus talents by balancing, juggling or stilt-walking in our inner
lobby.
April is Rhythm & Motion month!
Come and experience rhythm and motion, in music, through dance and in our everyday lives! In the lobby there will be an impromptu percussion band. Visitors will discover rhythm and tempo by playing percussive instruments, including their own bodies!
May is Spring Alive month! Animals are waking up after their winter’s nap and tiny buds and sprouts are appearing in the garden. Even people have an added bounce in their step. What’s behind this natural energy force? It’s spring! And we can’t wait to explore this magical life cycle.
June is Celebrate Long Island month! What’s so great about Long Island? Everything! Throughout their history, Long Island communities have had a special relationship with the sea. Come in and celebrate with us and find out more about your favorite island.
July is Over the Moon month!
Explore the moon in all its phases, then, blast off to the outer limits! Travel through space and time with programs that look at the night sky through folklore, science and history.
August is Fun & Games month!
Celebrate the last lazy, hazy days of summer with Fun and Games at LICM. Free your mind and play. The inner lobby will have hopscotch games laid out on the floor and resident LICM “players” ready to teach and play games!
September is Family Ties month! Join us as we explore the traditions and rituals that connect one generation to the next in our families. These can take many forms—from the way we celebrate holidays to the ways that we they preserve family history in stories, songs, images and even, recipes! This is the time to celebrate family rituals and the personal history that our family members pass along to us.
October is All Around the
Globe month!
Join us as we spin the globe and zoom in
for a closer look at the countries and cultures that surround
us. What do we have in common? How are we different? Grab your
passport for some worldly adventures as we move around the world
in 30 days!
November is How Things
Work month!
Curious about how things work, why they
work and who invented them? Then come on in as we take a look
at the inventions that help us live longer, learn better and
have fun. We’ll explore great inventors throughout history
and local legends who are changing our lives.
December is Celebrations! month!
Our
celebrations act as annual renewals of all the beliefs and cultural
themes that unite us as a community. Join us as we celebrate strong
familial ties, splendid festivals, and the joys of childhood through
the lens of children.
