Ready for School,
Ready for Learning,
Ready for Life!

The Long Island Children's Museum places community service at the heart of its mission, core values and strategic plan. This commitment is brought vividly to life through its community outreach initiative, Good to Go (Ready for School, Ready for Learning, Ready for Life), offering programs for children and families not traditionally served by cultural institutions, including KICKstart (Kids Ideas Create Knowledge), Juntos al Kinder/Together to Kindergarten and Be Together, Learn Together.

Funded through a federal grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services, this program supports a collaborative initiative between LICM, Nassau County Health and Human Services and Family Court to enhance the preventative and support services provided by these agencies.

In order to address the needs of local families with limited English proficiency, LICM created Together to Kindergarten programs to serve Long Island's Spanish and Haitian communities. These English immersion kindergarten readiness programs take a holistic approach to acclimating the whole family to the culture of the classroom in the United States.

Size, scope and sustainability have established KICKstart (Kids Ideas Create Knowledge), as a national model for sustained community outreach. Currently in its tenth year, the program serves children, families and teachers in one of the most high-need school districts on Long Island.

The Westbury STEM Partnership promotes engagement in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) topics at the earliest stage of classroom learning to both students and their teachers using the Museum's galleries and inquiry-based learning techniques.
